Britta Sedgwick
My artwork is about observation and my perspective. It is about seeing, more than just existing. Through my art, I am learning to appreciate the complexity and detail of my surroundings and patterns that emerge from my daily life and from the natural world around me.

As an Artist
Britta Sedgwick is from a small town in Idaho called Saint Maries. She grew up learning to appreciate creativity and the outdoors. Britta is now a military wife, a mother, and a Christian. She hopes to be a practicing artist at home to do what she loves best and to help support her growing family.
"I used to work a mile underground. Turning off my headlamp while in an isolated area I was left in total darkness by myself. When you are all alone in complete darkness you have a moment to think about what life really means. You can feel just how fragile your little heart beat is. When I have moments that bring me back to pondering my life, I find myself thinking about the reasons why I want to be on earth. I remember all the amazing things that are around me. I think about my relationships with other people, and my feelings toward myself.
In my art I express thoughts of being aware of things happening in my surroundings. I am motivated by seeing, rather than just being in a space. The best way to be aware of what is going on around you is to look up. I love to look up. There are so many things going on around us that we do not even recognize or see because sometimes we, like all those around us, are so caught up in what is going on in our own bubble. Being self-aware is important, but not to the extent that we neglect the other wonderful beings and life around us.
I am a curious person, and strive to look closer. My art is about taking details from observation to mesh with situations of design potential. I desire to improve my perspective and representation of detail; I strive to better appreciate the complexity of my surroundings in civilization and in nature."
